A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Kangan area of Pulwama in South Kashmir on Friday.
The encounter began after terrorists opened fire on security personnel who were conducting a cordon-and-search operation in the area. In retaliation, forces killed one militant and recovered oneAK 47 and one SLR gun and other incriminating materials.The Operation stands concluded.
Local sources said that clashes erupted in main town Pulwama and in Kangun village where the militant was killed.
The latest encounter comes six days after 13 militants were killed in three separate encounters with security forces in neighbouring Shopian and Anantnag districts on April 1.
The slain militant is believed to be a local. He, according to initial reports, was associated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
