Armed police in Huyton street after reports a man with a gun locked himself in house


A man with a gun locked himself inside a house in Huyton this afternoon sparking a major armed police response on the street.

Officers were involved in what they are calling a “containment” at a property in Edinburgh Drive just after 3.40pm.

A concerned member of the public called the emergency services to the home stating that “the man inside was in possession of a gun”.

Specialist police with guns were sent to the incident and arrested a 42-year-old man at the scene.

Two air weapons were discovered at the home.

Merseyside Police said that “a containment was put on the address and road closures were put in place as a precautionary measure”

The force spokesman added: “Officers were involved in a containment at an address in Edinburgh Drive, Huyton this afternoon following a concern for the safety of a man inside.

“We were called to the residential property just after 3.40pm following reports from a member of the public that the man inside was in possession of a gun.

“Armed police were deployed to the address where a 42 year old man was detained at the location and two air weapons were located.”

The situation has since been stood down.
