All-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 teased

Toyota is preparing a renewed assault on the mid-size SUV market.

Toyota has released a teaser image of the next RAV4, which is set to be unveiled at the New York Motor Show on 28 March.

Currently Australia’s third most popular SUV behind the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson, the next RAV4 will sit on the latest TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that underpins the current Camry, C-HR and Prius, as well as the upcoming Corolla revealed at Geneva this month.

It is assumed that the exterior design of the compact SUV Toyota RAV4 fifth generation will be executed in stylistics of the concept Toyota FT-AC, the world debut of which was held last fall at the motor show in Los Angeles-2017.

Toyota hasn’t said anything about the new RAV4 but we can expect it to get the new engines debuting in the new Corolla and, who knows, maybe even Apple and Android connectivity…

If you can’t attend the New York Auto Show in person but still want to catch the reveal of the 2019 Toyota RAV4, you can catch the official livestream that day at 9:10 AM EDT.

It seems unlikely Toyota will offer a diesel option in the new RAV4, but it is likely it will be offered with a choice of hybrid power plants including the new 2.0 litre hybrid, as well as Toyota’s new 2.0 litre petrol.

In 2017, the RAV4 sold more than 400,000 units, marking its best sales year ever despite its relatively advanced age (the current-generation RAV4 launched in 2013, a long time ago in auto years).
