HTC mobile chief resigns before the unveiling of company's last flagship HTC U12

After recently selling a large portion of its smartphone business to Google, HTC’s President of Smartphone and Connected Devices has announced that he will be stepping down to pursue his own “personal career plan”.

In a statement, HTC said Chang had made a decision to leave to take a different career path. He previously worked in “technology development” at Motorola Solutions, and initially served as HTC’s Chief Financial Officer.

Local media reports said that after leaving HTC, Chang plans to set up a company eyeing the opportunities from the artificial intelliegence (AI) market.

HTC has already sold off most of its smartphone design and engineering team to Google for $1.1 billion.

HTC U12 could be the successor to last year’s HTC U11 and will boast dual camera setup on the back. As these losses in the smartphone business are not good for the company, it needs to address them.

This morning brings us news that HTC’s Chia-Lin Chang, who was occupying the position of President of Smartphones and Connected Devices, has resigned. “We thank him for his dedication to the Company for the last 6 years and wish him well in his future endeavors”. Some sources revealed that HTC won’t be launching its new smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. Excitement has even waned surrounding its next flagship device with a target of just two million units. The device is expected to have thinner bezels, Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC from Qualcomm.
