Atletico Madrid matchwinner Antoine Griezmann dedicated his goal to Nacho ‘Cholito’ Barbera after his passing this week.
Atletico held on the win their match 1-0 against Malaga and the French forward said that he was glad to have earned the victory for Cholito, who was a keen Atleti fan.
“It was important to win, although we knew it was going to be difficult,” he said on BeIN Sports after the match.
“This match was for Cholito, because a loss like that is incredibly sad.”
Asked about the title race and the fact that Atletico are now just six points behind Barcelona, Griezmann insisted that he wouldn’t be obsessing about the Catalan club’s clash with Getafe on Sunday.
“I will be with my daughter tomorrow and enjoying time with her,” he said, when asked if he’d watch the match at the Camp Nou.
“We have a match on Thursday, so we’ll rest and prepare for that.
“We need to keep fighting and trying to win all of the matches that remain.
“Then we’ll see where we are.”
